Max MSP

November 16, 2009

This program is the key to making our idea work. This program allows media sources to be triggered by light. This gives us the chance to escape the generic technology of buttons and touch screens etc. Our idea is to have a set of objects relating to a specific emotion, which when lifted off the table will respond to an individually assigned pattern, triggering one of four separate videos.

Workspace

November 13, 2009

What we are still concerned with is the workspace we have to exhibit our project in.

We have the idea of creating an environment in which one can relax, and filter out all emotions, anxieties etc. An example of this could be a lounge area with a sofa and the coffee table next to it. Otherwise we were thinking about a bedroom, which links nicely to sleep, where dreams and the subconscious doors of the mind open up, which is the theme were going for.

If we could get access to a corner of the building, then we can place the table in the middle of the space available to create a more gathered and immersive experience, eliminating the use of walls.

Filming 1

November 2, 2009

Today Campbell and I went round Bournemouth in the luxury of his taxi benefits haha, and started to gather footage for our project. Today we covered alot of subjective things to do with sadness, generic and personal things.

Tomorrow we have decided to head to Weymouth, in the car, for more filming and fun!

Feedback

October 29, 2009

Today Campbell and I discussed our idea for the Future Cinema module with tutor Liam Birtles. He gave us positive feedback, but wanted us to modify a couple of ideas as the concept we envisioned seemed too triggered.

Future Cinema Underway!

October 12, 2009

It Monday afternoon and everyone is now getting into groups and chucking together some ideas for the new project. With the criteria presentation on 9th November, and the classes only taking place on Mondays and Thursdays for the first term, time is very critical for everybody.

I have decided to work with Michael Campbell for this project, as we have been chatting all morning about an idea. We both think this idea could be visually interesting, as well as technical and interactive. We will speak with Liam about it when get a chance to, just to get approval and see if it’s actually what he is after in this module.

Unfortunately this wasn’t the case and he commented about it being too much like buttons and simple interactivity, whereas this time he wants us to move away from generic functionality methods.

Show Me The Popcorn!

October 5, 2009

The latest Quentin Tarrantino flick titled ‘Inglorious Basterds’ hit cinemas this summer. I caught it in my local ‘Cineworld’ multiplex back home. It was definitely a step up from it’s predecessor ‘Death Proof’, but to be fair that’s not hard. The tutors have just informed us that on Thursday, the class is off on a trip to London to visit an old cinema named the Rex.

I have been to the Duke of York’s Picturehouse, an old style cinema in Brighton, with a buddy to watch the 2005 film ‘Brick’ by Rian Johnson. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, was a very different take to the corporate franchise I plus many others are used to.

This should be an average experience watching the film were going to in an old style cinema such as the Rex, and apparently the film is sandwiched with some other experimental stuff which Bob Cotton has requested to exhibit for us.

Round Two Commences!

October 5, 2009

Here we go then, the second year of the course. Summer is over and it’s back to work.

Can’t believe I’m halfway through the Foundation Degree already! I’m in a new house this year too with some average folk, yet I’m much closer to university this year so will be easier for me to get my work done than last time.

Seeing everyone again was surprisingly nice as well, considering I don’t really click with anyone in the class.

Today started with tutors Phil Beards and Liam Birtles welcoming us back, asking how our summers were etc. once that was out the way we were introduced to the new module titled Future Cinema. This basically introduces us to a new idea of how an audience should consume and appreciate film material.

We were shown the following collection of videos below by the tutors as they assisted us through the eventual goal of this project. Check the videos out for now.

Filmmaker Peter Greenway discussing how he believes the current cinema tradition is perishing.
